Chase

B.A. in Psychology

Chase served in the Peace Corps, where he taught English as a second language, created technical training documents in Portuguese, and was Editor-in-Chief of his country’s Peace Corps newsletter. As a sometimes-software engineer, what he loves most about working with students is showing them how they can use the written word to present incredibly complex concepts in simple ways. His attitude is that writing is problem-solving, and any problem can be solved with the right questions. A big paper might be the answer to a few big questions, but also a few dozen smaller questions, and hundreds of tiny questions. Chase asks all those tiny questions, the student answers them easily, the paper just kind of happens, and it’s like magic! Meanwhile, Chase enjoys the look of surprise and wonderment on the student’s face.

Clare enjoys working with all students at any stage of the writing process. She feels that her work in Psychology and English has given her a greater understanding of both APA and MLA styles. She has worked as a writing consultant for 3 years and has worked with international students for almost three years, in both writing consultations and conversation groups. She is seeking her master’s degree in Rhetoric & Composition and British Literature because she believes that every individual is a great writer, and she has a crazy love for Chaucer. The best part of writing consultation, for Clare, is that moment when students wrangle the English language, and its conventions, into a powerful tool to accomplish their goals!
