Mission

The CASA Reading Specialists provide encouragement and direction for students navigating their way through complex tests, discourses, vocabulary, and various other types of assigned reading.

One-on-One Reading Sessions

A trained reading specialist meets with students on a one-on-one basis to provide strategies that will help individuals remember information from their texts and strategies that will enable students to make text connections that deepen comprehension of the text information. The reading specialists listen to you, provide guidance with your questions, offer suggestions on tools you can utilize, and help you plan the strategies for reading success that fit with your personal learning style. Most sessions last 30 minutes, and you can make an appointment with a Reading Specialist by registering online with our appointment scheduler on the left. Workshops

A few of the most Popular topics: Mind mapping, Graphic Organizers, 5 Steps to Reading in College.

Conversation Group

Students learning English as a new language can meet with the reading specialist to talk through content information and use the time to improve their understanding of the new discourse vocabulary, learn the ways the vocabulary breaks down into affixes and roots that may be common to their preferred conversational language. Practice in speaking can improve understanding of the common patterns in academic language which will transfer into more fluent reading skills.
