OVERVIEW

First Islander Scholars’ Academy is a Center for Academic Student Achievement (CASA) initiative to provide additional support to First Generation Students. For the purpose of First Islander Scholars’ Academy, first generation students are defined as first time in college students whose parents’ highest level of education is a high school diploma or less. This program offers academic support and community engagement opportunities to enrich the student’s college experience. Participants must complete an application and attend the mandatory First Islander Scholars’ Academy orientation prior to the beginning of the fall or spring semesters. The program is offered to a limited number of incoming freshmen.

Misison:

The First Islander Scholars’ Academy Program (FISAP) is committed to give program participants academic, social and community support to enhance their learning opportunities and improve their ability to persist and graduate.

Vision:

Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree is attainable for all FISA participants. Our vision is to increase the number of first generation student graduates to levels equal to or higher than the retention of continuing generation students.
