The Center for Academic Student Achievement's (CASA) mission is to guide students in developing the skills necessary to be successful learners through the creation of a supportive learning environment that fosters intellectual growth. In the supportive environment of CASA, students work collaboratively to achieve academic success by gaining an understanding of their learning styles and mastering learning strategies. Our goal is to help unprepared students to prepare, prepared students to advance, and advanced students to excel.
- Our Services
- CASA's Academic Insight Mentors (AIM) are assigned to all incoming first-year freshman. Peer mentors, successful upperclassmen and graduate students, contact students and provide them with success strategies, helpful advice, information about a academic support services and deadlines. The peer mentors draw on a wealth of experiences to guide students in making wise academic choices while they are attending the Island University.
- Peer tutoring represents one of the largest and most utilized services at CASA. The tutoring program offers assistance to students in over forty-five subjects. CASA's award-winning program employs tutors who are experts in their fields and assist students on an individual basis or in small groups. Tutoring sessions are facilitated in CASA's labs and house computers with Internet access, MS Office and a variety of class specific software.
- Most tutoring is conducted on a walk-in basis, students simply need to check tutoring schedules and locations on this website. Please note that CASA's Writing Center, which assists students with writing and composition assignments, recommends that students make an appointment. Please visit the Writing Center website for more information.
- Supplemental Instruction (SI), a component of the Tutoring program, offers assistance to students enrolled in specific core classes. A tutor, known as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, attends class lectures and then offers individual or small groups assistance at scheduled times outside of class.
